It is so diverse that it’s not easy to start describing it but I will try to give you a hint of the beautiful things you will discover.
Let’s start with our village of Grabels! About 1,5 km from the house, you will find some nice shops to help you prepare your meals such as a traditional butchery, a bakery that also makes some nice pastries and cakes, and a grocery with fresh fruits and vegetables.
There are also two wine shops among which La Fabrique where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine accompanied by tapas to relax in the cool evening air
Restaurants in the village or nearby, including our favourites Le Tandem, La Pétanque and Le Clos des Oliviers.
Pizza and sushi delivery.
a tobacco shop, a post office, a pharmacy and some doctors (including an English speaking doctor). Every Saturday morning right at the center of the village, there is a small market that sells local products.
We are on the way to Saint-Jacques de Compestelle and there are some nice hikes around as well as the possibility to practice climbing, horse riding and biking.
3 Km from the house is a supermarket with petrol station
By car, Montpellier is only 8,5 km away. It is a lively city where it is a pleasure to wander and get lost in the narrow streets around the Place de la Comédie. You will be able to relax on one of the numerous terraces hidden in small squares disseminated all around the Ecusson, the oldest district of the city.
For your little gifts, you will appreciate the shop called ‘’La carterie’’ or ‘’Pomme de reinette et Pomme d’Api’’, a toy shop where you can also admire some ancient toys and games.
For those of you who are interested in our culture, you will enjoy visiting the Fabre museum or the former university of medicine. All along the year, we have some photography exhibitions and some plays or operas at the theatre.
For those of you who like bargain hunting, go to the ‘’Esplanade Charles de Gaulle’’ on Saturday morning and to the Lapeyrou garden on Sunday morning.
Close to Montpellier, let’s discover a more modern area with a specific architecture called Antigone.
You can also walk along the Lez River, visit the zoo (free entry) or the Amazonian greenhouse.
It is also fun to discover the city by bike.

In the north of Grabels, you can visit the wonderful village of Saint-Guilhem-le-désert, the two caves of Clamousse and the Demoiselles, the Salagou lake and the Navacelles crater.
Enjoy some nice hikes up to the Pic Saint-Loup or the Hortus, discover the chaos of Montpellier-le-Vieux or further north the Millau viaduct. It can also be fun to discover the Hérault Valley by kayaking down the river.
In the south, the Mediterranean Sea is waiting for you with its numerous beaches that are situated between 16 and 30 km from here.
There are some small ones as well as huge ones, some for families and others for parties or naturists.
You will definitely find one that will suit you! Palavas-les Flots, Carnon, La Grande Motte, le Grau-du-Roi et sa plage de l'Espiguette.
In the east, the Camargue region with its famous cities like Arles or Aigues-Mortes that host some art exhibitions and festivals all summer long.
If you enjoy nature, you will discover the typical white horses of the Camargue plus the herds of bulls. In the amazing ornithological park of the Saintes-marie-de-la-mer, you will discover the typical bird of the area: the pink flamingo. Do not miss it!
From there, have a nice boat trip along the ‘’Petit Rhône’’. A bit up north, discover the cities of Nîmes and Uzès, the Pont du Gard
In the west, the Thau pond with its oysters that you can taste in small restaurants.
Frontignan with its sweet wines.
Sète, with its nice fishing village and fishermen’s boats.
